‘ULLAPOOL COMPOSER TO DELIGHT WITH ‘SUMMER CELEBRATION’ CONCERT…’

Composer James Douglas has announced that he will give a unique ‘Summer Celebration ‘ Concert in Ullapool to mark the 250th Anniversary of the death of Composer G. F. Handel, as well as to launch the World Premiere of new piece marking the journey from Inverness to Ullapool: “The A835 to Ullapool.”

James Douglas has always been influenced by the music of Handel and Mozart and on Friday 3rd July 2009, he will mark his birthday by giving a stunning ‘Summer Celebration’ Concert combining his ensemble ‘The Glorious Company’ with Music by Mozart, Handel, Charpentier as well as Douglas to provide a wonderful summer evening of well-known music, in the company of professional musicians: ‘The Glorious Company.’ James Douglas has long established a tradition of letting his audiences in Ullapool hear his new compositions first and this will be no exception. ‘The A835 to Ullapool’ is written for Flute & Piano and is in 3 movements: a) Ben Wyvis, b) Loch Droma and c) from Braemore to Ullapool. Other music to feature at the exciting Concert will be ‘Peace of the Highlands’ the title track of James Douglas’ best-selling latest CD, ‘Café Society’ for Trumpet & Piano: a lively work depicting 5 very different Cafes in Paris, as well as other popular music by Charpentier, Mozart and Handel.

The Glorious Company will feature the return for the first time in 2009 of soloist: Eileen Brown, an accomplished woodwind performer, who will perform with the Composer on the Soprano Saxophone accompanied by Piano. Written for her will be performances of ‘Gruinard Bay’ by Douglas, Handel: ‘Minuet’ from the Fireworks Music and ‘Le Rejouissance’ by Handel.
